The Roundhouse at Pinsent

Kevin Holland was an active and very much-liked member of the Scouting community in Winchester. He was always keen to help and nothing was too much trouble. He was involved with the 9th Winchester Scout Group as a Cub and Scout leader and also with the Beacons Explorer Unit and the DofE Award Scheme. Even as late as the Monday before he died, Kevin was still planning the DofE Expedition for the following weekend. For his outstanding services to Scouting Kevin was awarded the Silver Acorn in the 2017 St George’s Day Honours, with other recognitions in 2016. Sadly Kevin passed away early in the morning of the 20th July 2018, at home with his wife, Maxine, following a courageous fight against cancer. One of Kevin’s final wishes was 'to provide something at Pinsent' and it was agreed with Kevin & Maxine a few days before he died that a roundhouse would be a fantastic memorial, a structure to provide shelter for all our Scouts for many years to come.

The building was paid for from bequests made in memory of Kevin and a donation from the Winchester Round Table. The whole structure was designed and erected by the Pinsent Maintenance Team with help from many others in the Scouting family and friends of Kevin. It was started in November 2018 and completed in April 2019, a fantastic acheivement by all who were involved. The total costs was in excess of £12k, a great deal cheaper than if outside contractors had been involved.

Although the Roundhouse is available for anyone to use, it is possible to hire on a daily base in conjunction with a camp booking.

The roundhouse can seat up to 30 people and also has eight fixings for hammocks.

Please check with the Campsite Bookings team for availability and conditions of use.
